Another couple of Speed Modeling entries.

This weeks got a great topic: Electronic, portable communication. I love cell phone design, and so I quite happily took on this weeks challenge.

This one is a homage to the original cell phone, the communicator from the original Star Trek series. Sci-Fi is often thought of as the originator for many of the great technologies we have now....things such as computers, tv's, portable communication devices, were all made up in sci-fi and fantasy stories long before they were even concieved of as real ideas.

This star trek communicator is quite possibly the very first "cell phone" design. Easily made 20 years before the first portable phones were available, you can see how closely it resembles cell design today. Amazing how this idea was created in the mid 60's.....

Anyways, this is the exact entry for this model...wire-frame and all. Here are the specs:

This is fabulous! Really well done. The design and finished product are so smooth! Very professional looking. And yes, the mark of real good science fiction is the uncanny prophesy of the future... although usually they're based on theories or science and technology that's already in the works at the time. Anyways, great work!

NICE!!!

I like the layout of this; it looks so professional with the wireframe and everything! Hm.. perhaps the "canvas size" (for lack of a better word) could be a bit bigger so the wireframe doesn't look so crowded with the 'real one,' ya know what I mean?

I like your choice to pick up the gold color in the text and frame bars, a very nice touch! My bro would go GAH GAH over this! (the one I made a copy of the Leonard and William CD from your CD for?

)

Yeah, I'd love to get a bigger picture out there....but unfortunately, contest rules have the picture sized fixed at 800x600...can't be any other size, and they are quite strict on that.
